Do not ask me to sing your national anthem

Fly your flags
Where you have walked proudly
With your boots on.
Let your nation sing the Anthem
Not me, not this chinky guy
I hate it
I hate things being imposed on me
I have heard your gunshots preaching
About what can this nation do to us
That’s why I want to be the voice of Kashmir
That’s why I want to be the voice of Dalit
That’s why I want to be the voice of Muslim
That’s why I want to be everyone who you
Have subjugated and oppressed.
My blank sheets which turn into poetry
Of resistance have cupped tears of mothers
Whose sons and daughters
you have killed and raped in the name of this nation.
Do not ask me to sing your national anthem
From the same mouth you fed bullets into
I have seen it all
I have tasted your kind of democracy
Let your nation sing the anthem
Not me. Not me
