Only Remembered- A Tribute To Bah Bhagot Mukhim and Bah Frankie Pariat

Kyrsoibor Pyrtuh

Within a span of one week the Shillong Football community had loss two talented footballers, Bah Bhakot Mukhim and Bah Frankie Pariat.

Since the middle of 1970s to the middle of 1990s the football scene in Shillong was at its best and it was the golden era of football. In the galaxy of footballers during that era, both Bhakot and Frankie were the stars who shone and excelled with their talents.

The football community is orphaned by the passing away of these stars and they have left a huge void. Raїot joins the football fraternity in mourning the deaths of these gifted players who had immensely contributed to the field of sports in the State. As a mark of respect to their contributions, Raiot is publishing messages and memories in honor of the departed players from the fraternity and football enthusiasts.

Cliff Nongrum, Goal Keeper Meghalaya State Team

We started our career together representing Meghalaya in the school games held in Tinsukia Assam in 1979 along with Bhagot. Then we were together in St Anthony’s College and the University team representing NEHU in the Inter University Tournaments. We played together in Blue Max, Langsning Sports Clubs and the Federation Cup. Bah Cliff lamented when he shared the recent photo of the Accountant General Football Team, Shillong in which Frankie Pariat and late Individual Talang (front row standing-Jerseys No 16 and 11 respectively) were part of the squad- “Look at them together and they are no longer with us

Bobby Wycliffe Wahlang, Footballer and College teacher.

I was a student of Bah Bhakot when I started playing professional football from Malki Sports Club way back in the late ‘90s. I followed Bah Bhakot every puja and winter break when he was assigned to coach the Under 16 team of Bakur SC for three years consecutively. After the Laban SC was relegated in the Shillong League Bah Bhakot took over as the head coach and guided us in many major tournaments, not just in Shillong but in various Districts, East, West Khasi Hills and Jaintia Hills Districts.

It was a great loss for me personally and I remember the last days when we met during our morning walk. May his soul rest in peace.

Kiron Joshi, Footballer/ Manager State Team for Santosh Trophy.

In 1986 Bhagot Mukhim was one of the regular players of the Meghalaya State Team which played in the Santosh trophy held in Madhya Pradesh. He was hard working, disciplined and a game planner. Everyone liked him, he was clever and excellent in free kicks (both direct and indirect). He played many years for Bluemax and the State Team.

With Frankie I played a few matches in the AG football tournaments but most of the time I was the manager. He was a very disciplined player and I have not seen a multitalented sports person like him who can play and excel in other disciplines like cricket, athletics and carrom board, besides football. We will miss him.

Rajesh Kamal (Badminton player and General Secretary MSBA)

Mr. Franky Pariat was an illustrious Sportsman of Meghalaya and our office (AG). He brought umpteen number of laurels to the state and to our office in football, cricket and athletics. A sporting icon in his own right was a role model for most of us sports persons in our formative years. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

In the words of Edson Arentes Do Nascimento:

“This is not our life
Everything here is a game
A passing thing,
What matters is what I’ve done
And what I’ll leave behind,
Let it be an example
For those that come.
There are many people
With the will to fight
Life is not just this.
Truth is farther behind”.
